New Windows 10 update
This week everyone received the new update version 21H2 on their Windows 10 device.
The update included some nice new features, including the News & Interest widget on the taskbar.
For all new features I would like to refer you to the Microsoft website:
What’s new in Windows 10, version 21H1 – What’s new in Windows | Microsoft Docs
You came to this tutorial because you want to remove the widget, so the first step is how to remove the news and weather widget from your taskbar.
Below that I have also written down a number of steps that you can do even more with the widget.
Let’s remove the Weather, news and Interest widget from the taskbar in Windows 10
- Right click on the widget (Or anywhere on your taskbar)
- Open News and Interests
- Select Turn off
There are also other options than removing the News and Interest widget
What else is there then?
- Well, for example, the language and the unit of degrees. Mine was set to Dutch and Fahrenheit.
- Or just an Icon instead of the whole widget?
- You can manage your interest
- The tips and tricks for the widget (From Microsoft)
The widget uses your Microsoft account. If you want to change any of the settings, you will be automatically redirected to your profile on msn.com.
Language and unit of degrees
The language in my microsoft profile is Dutch, but because I build tutorials I prefer to see everything in English.
The degrees are automatically adjusted to the chosen country and default in this country, but you can also adjust this on the screen itself. See the screenshot below.
An icon only
I don’t think this option is that special, but you can also have an icon shown instead of text. It will show the weather as an icon, so for example a sunny day is a Sun.
- Right click on the widget
- Go to News and interest
- Select Show icon only
Manage your interests
You can customize what you see when you open the widget.
You can do this by clicking on Manage interest.
This will then open your profile on msn.com.
- Search for news topics that interest you.
- You can also follow or unfollow news topics here as shown in the screenshot below.
Tips and tricks from Microsoft
Click on the 3 dots in the upper-right corner of the widget and open Tips and tricks.
This opens the Tips application in Windows. There are 5 tips for the News and Interest Widget right now.
You can click through these, but they are nothing special ( They’re practically the same as mine!).
